WISE IN THE WORKS: Woodlands Senior Makes Her WISE Mark Early – And Well!

On May 13, 2016, at 12:30 pm, Samantha Simpson will stand up in front samantha simpsonof the entire WISE class of 2016 and in front of as many other juniors and seniors (and community members) who can be there and give her final presentation – well ahead of other WISE students.

Many years ago, Woodlands High School, long known as the Mothership of the WISE Fleet, decided to have one WISE senior make a MODEL PRESENTATION, before the usual presentation time for the WISE season. That senior would have to be an outstanding WISE student in all respects and one well on her/his way to finalizing the project early so that the presentation could serve as a prototype and an inspiration for other seniors.

Model Presenter — Model Presentation                                                                                     textbox callout oneThis year, it’s Samantha’s turn. And she’s more than ready. In fact, so ready that she actually volunteered to do so. She met all the requirements for the model presenter: she was an outstanding WISE student, on target with everything; her journal passed muster when the task force read it; her mentor strongly recommended her; she was ready and willing and able.

So Woodlands took her up on her offer and she is this year’s Woodlands model presenter. She will be talking about her ambitious hands-on/minds-on project — beautifying the incredible Warburg campus on which Woodlands sits. Like many Woodlands WISE students, she began her project junior year, choosing to get a head start on a project so involved and so demanding that she needed all the time she could get. The results – well, come and find out on May 13!

Public Speaking through WISE

Samantha is no neophyte when it comes to public speaking. She appeared at the WISE Coordinators Forum this past fall and spoke to the assembled coordinators about her project, then still in the works. Now she steps up once again, this time to finish the presentation that she began back then and show us all just how well the project worked.

Woodlands High School remains in the forefront of WISE goings-on, both in its carrying on the legacy that began over forty years ago and in its continuing to innovate the way WISEtextbox callout 2 AGAIN works. A number of other schools have also adopted the Model Presentation as part of their WISE programs –to help all the seniors get off to an equally roaring start and show juniors and others just what WISE is all about. We encourage students, teachers and community members to attend those presentations that are open to the public, as Samantha’s is, to get a first-hand idea of the exceptional work that WISE students like Samantha put into their projects and the equally exceptional results of that work.
